So one night, while my husband was recordng in the studio (he's a music producer), I got a burst of energy and wanted to make a big plain wall in my family room feel...well, more interesting and more cozy. I didn't have a big box that I could use so I went into my laundry room (which is always where anything and everything ends up) and found bristol board. I started looking through different shapes and came up with the typical morroccan style. I basically folded the bristol board in half and used a small bowl to make the curves even. Then I just cut out the shape while it was folded and got the shape that I wanted. Here's the picture I posted on my Pinterest board:
A moment of hesitation later, I was up on my fireplace with the stencil in one hand and a pencil in the other, I started at the top lefthand corner. I went row by row and decided to go with the "double" stencil look...mainly by mistake but what a great mistake it was...I was too lazy to go back and fix it but I'm glad I didn't. So I kept on going, and it does get easier as you continue...it's like time just freezes and all you see is wall, stencil, pencil...3 hours later which didn't feel that long...I was done the tracing portion.
The next day, I went out to Michael's to get some Sharpie Paint Pen's. I bought the oil paint (don't buy anything else) in the bold size in the white colour. Surprisingly, it did not smell bad like I thought it would! Make sure to shake the pen before you start. You may need to push the pen on a piece of paper a few times before the paint comes out. Once the paint starts flowing, start doing one section at a time. I would go row by row, the same way you traced it. Go over each line twice which will give you pretty good coverage. Remember that it doesn't have to be perfect, you cannot tell from afar if you see pencil through the paint. No one really goes that close anyways. And if they do, well...they won't and who cares. It just makes it even more personal...most people will not believe you had the time or the talent to even attempt to do something like this and the imperfection will just prove even more that you did it! I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial. Please let me see your project, I love to know how it went for you.
Again, thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I want to make this a place where I can share with you what I'm doing, trying, loving and if you have a specific request for anything in particular, let me know. After all, this is also a place for us to discuss, share, and learn from one another.
Have a beautiful day my lovelies!
